Start the Music was set up in 2019 and is a project within St Aidan’s Music Association, open to Key Stage 3 students, Years 7 to 9.
This morning, students gathered in the Chapel to celebrate and remember the life of Frank Ashton.
Year 9 Textiles students have been doing some wonderful work on ‘Countries and Cultures’.
Our Key Stage 3 Girls Badminton team are the North Yorkshire Champions! They will now go onto the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield for the Yorkshire Finals! The girls beat Huntington 5-0, Malton 4-1 and Wensleydale 5-0. Congratulations to the team – Ailie Leishman, Eleanor Adrian-Horrocks, Emily Dennis and Alice Parker.
Yesterday was the Sixth Form Forum for all our Year 11 students. We had talks about our Sixth Form opportunities, alongside visitors from Harrogate College, York College and Askham Bryan.
The St Aidan’s Design and Technology Department assembled five teams to compete in the annual Rotary Club Technology Tournament held on Tuesday 4th February in Constance Green Hall.

Well done to the Under 14 and Under 16 Netball teams yesterday in their matches at Ryedale School. They both won the competition!

St Aidan’s musicians have had a joyfully busy weekend with the North East Festival of Youth Choirs and the Junior Music Residential coinciding on the same day this year!
This morning, Year 11 students ran a cake sale to raise money for the charity WECare, a Sri Lankan Charity working with vulnerable animals. This was organised in memory of Annabel Wright.
It’s been a busy week in the Photography department! Year 12 Photographers have been discussing ‘What is a Portrait?’ and debate the Taylor Wessing Portraiture prize shortlist before selecting their winners.
Year 8 German classes have recently been creating a ‘My Alien Family’ project – they look fantastic!
Well done to the debating team of Dan Alcock, Owen Spafford, and Alfie Tyrrell, who were worthy winners in the second round of the ESU Mace competition at Easingwold School on Tuesday evening. All three speakers were commended by the judges for their assured performances. They now head to the NE Regional Finals in February.
Our Year 12 students had an assembly to mark Holocaust Memorial Day which was yesterday, 27th January.
