The Art class of 8RP organised on a pop up art gallery this week, ‘Marks and Spacers Fruit from Out of Space Exhibition’.
Year 8 students have been creating some amazing art using simple paper designs and dramatic lighting!
This morning our Year 7 and Year 8 students had their Ash Wednesday Services in the Main Hall and Constance Green Hall, to celebrate the first day of Lent.
Year 8 students have been sculpting in Art this week, adding glaze and oxide before putting their projects in the kiln!
Start the Music was set up in 2019 and is a project within St Aidan’s Music Association, open to Key Stage 3 students, Years 7 to 9.
Year 8 German classes have recently been creating a ‘My Alien Family’ project – they look fantastic!
It’s been another busy week before the end of term in the Art department. Year 8 have been creating sculptures and Year 12 have been exploring physical manipulation in Photography.

Some of our Year 8 students are away in Ullswater and Howtown this week. The weather has been challenging, however this has not dampened their spirits and they are having a fantastic time.
Chris Bradford, author of the popular ‘Young Samurai’ and ‘Bodyguard’ series of books visited school this week and entertained Years 7 and 8 with his martial arts and bodyguard techniques.
Krish Desha-Beerachee, Year 8 student, performed at the Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts Piano Festival which took place at Christchurch, Ilkley from 15th-17th October, where he was also invited to perform at the final concert on the 18th October.
On Wednesday 6th November, our team of Year 8 students won the Lit Quiz 2019 at Bootham School, York. Congratulations! They won the Quiz and the trophy and are now through to the National Finals, which will be held in London on 4th December.
On Tuesday 22nd October we held our lower school sports awards evening. Students from current Year 8,9,10 were awarded medals for contributions to school sports over the last academic year.

On 20th November we’re welcoming the author Chris Bradford to school to show us some of his hot shot martial arts moves and tell us all about what inspired him to write his series of best-selling books, “Young Samurai”.

Following in the tradition of full-scale musicals that has seen us staging Evita, West Side Story, School of Rock and Sister Act (to name but a few), rehearsals are now well underway for this year’s show.
A great start to the year with our Year 7 (who are now Year 8!) cricket team winning the North Yorkshire Cricket Cup. The boys played really well last week and thoroughly deserved the win against a strong Harrogate Grammar School team. Well done to all involved!
