St Aidan’s School is asking for people in Harrogate & District to come to their aid in trying to find two students who were involved in “cutting the first sod” when work began on the school in 1966. The Laying of the Dedication Stone took place on June 18th 1966 by the Lord Bishop of Ripon, John Moorman and involved the then Head Girl of St Peter’s Secondary Girls’ School, Helen Campbell and Head Boy of Christ Church Secondary Boys’ School, Raymond Long. Given that the 50th Anniversary of this event is fast approaching John Wood, the present Headteacher of St Aidan’s would love to be able to find out more about these two students who played such a prominent post in the event and try to involve them in the commemoration activities.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of these two people and has their contact details we would love to hear from them – either by ringing the school direct on 01423 885814 or contacting us through our email firstname.lastname@example.org it would be great to meet up with Helen and Raymond and share memories of what happened.
