Sustainability at St. Aidan's
St. Aidan’s Church of England High School Sustainability Statement
At St. Aidan’s Church of England High School, we believe that caring for God’s creation is a vital expression of our Christian faith and responsibility. Guided by our vision to live “life in all its fullness,” we are committed to fostering a sustainable future for our students, staff, and fhe wider community.
We recognise the urgent need to respond to environmental challenges and are dedicated to:
- Reducing our environmental impact through responsible energy use, waste reduction, and sustainable procurement practices.
- Educating our students about climate change, environmental stewardship, and sustainable living across the curriculum and through enrichment activities.
- Promoting biodiversity and green spaces within our school grounds to support wellbeing and ecological balance.
- Engaging with our community to encourage sustainable practices at home and in local partnerships.
- Aligning with the Church of England’s Net Zero Carbon commitment by 2030, exploring ways to reduce our carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency.
Through these actions, we aim to inspire courageous and compassionate leaders who will care for the world and its people, now and for generations to come.
The Department for Education's (DfE) sustainability leadership and climate action plans initiative was launched in 2023. Further details are available on the DfE website.
St. Aidan’s is fully supportive of the DfE strategy and have produced our Climate Action Plan for 2025-2026.
We will be working towards the objectives set out in the plan and will review our progress towards the actions and objectives outlined in the plan termly.
We have detailed our approach towards teaching a sustainable curriculum and how we will educate our students on matters relating to sustainability in each subject and further information on how each subject will approach this is detailed in our curriculum pages.
We will also be working with our sustainability partner Let’s Go Zero 2030 on our longer term climate action plan. They will be supporting us with setting objectives, implementing actions and tracking the impact and progress of our Sustainability Strategy.
