Ancient History
Deuteronomy 32:7
“Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past.”
The History curriculum at St. Aidan’s links to our whole school curriculum intent statement. History empowers students to understand the world they live in through critical thinking, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the past.
Rooted in our Christian ethos and aligned with our vision of “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10), we help students explore how historical events, movements, and individuals have shaped societies, values, and cultures across time. Our curriculum is ambitious, knowledge-rich, and carefully sequenced to ensure that students build secure understanding and make meaningful connections. Through engaging enquiry-led topics, students develop key skills in analysis, evaluation, and argument, preparing them for academic success and informed citizenship.
Reading and literacy are embedded throughout, supporting students to interpret sources, construct evidence-based arguments, and communicate with clarity and confidence. We explore themes of justice, leadership, conflict, and sustainability, encouraging students to consider their role in shaping a fairer world. By studying History, students are equipped not only for success in examinations but also for life beyond the classroom—with the cultural awareness, moral understanding, and intellectual curiosity needed to thrive. History at St. Aidan’s raises aspirations, opens career pathways, and nurtures individuals ready to contribute to society with insight and compassion. Our aim is to create thoughtful, informed citizens with the knowledge and perspective to engage critically and responsibly with the world around them.
