Applied Science
Romans 1:20
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities...have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.”
The Applied Science curriculum at St. Aidan’s links to our whole school curriculum intent statement. Applied Science offers students a practical and purposeful route into scientific study, grounded in real-world application and designed to build knowledge, confidence, and transferable skills.
The course blends key concepts from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with vocational contexts—preparing students for further education, apprenticeships, and careers in science-related fields. The curriculum is structured around engaging, everyday topics that help students see how science works in action—from healthcare and environmental science to industrial processes and analytical techniques. Learning is delivered in a clear, step-by-step manner to ensure deep understanding and long-term progression. Students complete a mix of theoretical and assignment-based work, supported by hands-on practical tasks that develop planning, problem-solving, and evaluative skills. Literacy and numeracy are embedded throughout, helping students to communicate findings, interpret results, and use technical terminology with accuracy and purpose. This course supports not only academic and professional growth but also personal development. Students are encouraged to reflect on the impact of science in society, consider ethical practice, and respond to challenges with resilience and integrity. Through high-quality teaching and a supportive learning environment, Applied Science at St Aidan’s gives students the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and take meaningful steps toward a future full of possibility.
