Hebrews 12:1
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

The PE curriculum at St. Aidan’s links to our whole school curriculum intent statement.

Physical Education aims to develop confident, active, and resilient students who value the importance of physical health, mental wellbeing, and lifelong participation in sport and physical activity. Our curriculum is inclusive, engaging, and designed to support personal growth alongside physical development.

From Key Stage 3 onwards, students take part in a broad range of individual and team sports, developing fundamental skills, tactical awareness, and a strong understanding of fitness and healthy living. Lessons promote teamwork, leadership, and communication, building transferable skills that support success across the wider curriculum. Our curriculum is intelligently sequenced to ensure students make clear progress over time, with increasing opportunities to reflect, analyse, and evaluate performance. At GCSE and Level 3, students explore the scientific, psychological, and socio-cultural factors that impact sport and physical performance, developing both theoretical understanding and applied knowledge. Assessment combines practical ability with theoretical insight, ensuring all students are supported and challenged to achieve their potential. PE also contributes to the wider personal development of students by encouraging perseverance, respect, and a growth mindset. Through PE, students develop the habits and values needed to lead healthy, active lives and succeed in a wide range of future personal and professional pathways.
