Geography
Psalm 24:1
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”
The Geography curriculum at St. Aidan’s links to our whole school curriculum intent statement. Geography equips students to understand the complex and dynamic world they live in.
Rooted in our Christian ethos and aligned with the whole-school vision of “life in all its fullness,” our curriculum inspires curiosity, develops knowledge, and cultivates a deep sense of place, identity, and global responsibility. Through a carefully sequenced learning journey, students gain a secure grasp of both physical and human geography. They learn to interpret landscapes, analyse data, evaluate environmental challenges, and consider sustainable solutions. Literacy is embedded throughout, enabling students to articulate their understanding clearly and confidently, both in writing and discussion. We prioritise critical thinking and informed decision-making, empowering students to engage with issues such as climate change, resource management, and global inequality. Our curriculum reflects real-world applications, linking content to careers and sustainability, and encouraging students to see themselves as active global citizens with the capacity to shape a more equitable future. Fieldwork, enrichment opportunities, and connections to The St. Aidan’s Offer bring learning to life beyond the classroom, fostering awe, engagement, and resilience. Geography at St. Aidan’s provides the knowledge, skills, and values students need to thrive in a changing world—and make a difference within it.

The Geography curriculum promotes sustainability by equipping students with a deep understanding of the complex relationships between people, places, and the environment. Through the study of climate change, ecosystems, urbanisation, and resource management, students explore the causes and consequences of environmental challenges. They critically assess global and local responses, learning to evaluate sustainable development strategies and their effectiveness. Fieldwork and enquiry-based learning empower students to apply this knowledge practically, fostering a sense of responsibility and the skills to make informed, sustainable decisions that can positively shape their communities and the wider world.
