Micah 6:8
“What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

The Politics curriculum at St. Aidan’s links to our whole school curriculum intent statement. Politics empowers students to understand and engage with the systems that shape their lives, locally, nationally, and globally.

In line with our vision of “life in all its fullness,” the Politics curriculum nurtures informed, thoughtful, and active citizens who can think critically, debate constructively, and challenge injustice. Our curriculum is rooted in the principles of democracy, participation, and power. Students explore political ideas, institutions, and ideologies through a structured sequence that builds confidence, knowledge, and analytical skill. Literacy is a core focus—students learn to construct persuasive arguments, write with clarity and precision, and express ideas with impact in speech and writing. Contemporary case studies, current affairs, and regular discussion ensure that learning is relevant and thought-provoking. Students grapple with real-world political questions—from civil liberties and electoral systems to global governance and climate justice—developing the skills to analyse, evaluate, and reflect. Sustainability, citizenship, and ethical responsibility run through the curriculum, supporting students to see Politics not as distant theory but as a vital force for shaping a fairer, more just world. Through enrichment, debate, and links to careers, we support students to aspire, contribute, and lead with integrity in a rapidly changing society.
