Engineering
Luke 14:28
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost?”
As part of the Engineering Manufacture curriculum at St. Aidan’s, we strive to create an engaging and challenging learning environment that strives to allow all learners to develop their skills and apply a repertoire of knowledge and understanding to manufacture high-quality products.
Learners are given opportunities to experience the use of a broad range of tools, equipment and machines. We work hard to give learners opportunities to become technical thinkers and engage in practical tasks to develop and improve manufacturing and design expertise to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. We encourage them to be self-reflective, critical thinkers who will evaluate and test their manufactured products against the required standards. We provide them with the ability to understand and apply the principles of engineering in the modern world.
Careers within Engineering
Engineering careers encompass a wide range of disciplines and industries. Some common career paths include civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, and software engineering. Other specialized fields include aerospace engineering, biomedical engineering, and petroleum engineering. Many engineering roles also involve design, research and development, manufacturing, and project management.
Sustainability within Engineering
Sustainability in engineering involves designing and creating things that meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. As part of the KS4 engineering course at St. Aidan’s we look at the environmental impact of a project throughout its entire life cycle. This includes minimising resource consumption, reducing waste and pollution, and promoting the use of renewable energy and sustainable materials.
