Art
“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God...to make artistic designs.”
Exodus 31:3-4
The Art curriculum at St. Aidan’s links to our whole school curriculum intent statement. The Art curriculum is designed to spark creativity, build technical skill, and encourage students to see the world with curiosity and confidence.
We provide opportunities for all learners to develop their visual language and personal voice through a broad and engaging curriculum. Students explore a range of materials, techniques, and processes across disciplines such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and digital media. Through this, they learn to experiment, take risks, and problem-solve—skills that are essential both in the arts and beyond. We place a strong emphasis on cultural understanding, encouraging students to engage with the work of a diverse range of artists, designers, and movements, and to reflect on the social, political, and historical contexts of art. The curriculum is intelligently sequenced to build knowledge and refine skills over time, promoting depth of understanding and preparing students for what comes next. Literacy, analysis, and self-evaluation are woven throughout, supporting students to articulate and develop their ideas effectively. Art at St. Aidan’s equips students with creative, analytical, and reflective skills that support academic progress and personal growth—preparing them to flourish in an ever-changing world.

Sustainability within Art
At St. Aidan's, we prioritise eco-friendly materials, reuse and repurpose supplies, and encourage students to think critically about waste and environmental impact in their creative process. Projects often involve recycled objects, natural dyes, and low-impact media. We teach that great art doesn't require new resources—it requires new ideas. By making sustainability part of our practice, we help students develop not just as artists, but as responsible global citizens. Art becomes a tool for environmental awareness and change, showing that creativity and conservation can go hand in hand.
