Year 8 Book Shadowing Group

The Year 8 CILP Carnegie Awards shadowing group gathered on Wednesday 16th June 2021 to watch the awards live on the official website screened from the British Library. Now that the shadowing has ended, Mrs Taylor suggested we, the students, should write this report.

So, the winners! ‘Run Rebel’ by Manjeet Mann won the Shadower’s Choice and ‘Look Both Ways’ by Jason Reynolds was voted to win by the judges. This has spilt our group as there were very mixed feelings about this development. Most of us had not enjoyed the collection of short stories Look Both Ways, but the judges felt it grappled with some tricky issues facing children today.

As a group, we voted for ‘The Girl Who Speaks Bear’ by Sophie Anderson because we all escaped to the wonderful fantasy world of Russian mythology.

We plan to keep the book group going and would love new members to come on a Thursday lunchtime to EN4.
