On Wednesday 9 March, St. Aidan’s hosted nine local secondary schools for the Harrogate and District Librarians Literary Quiz Battle of the Books. Teams were entered from; Harrogate Ladies College, John Smeaton Academy, Harrogate Grammar School, Queen Mary’s School, Ripon Grammar School, King James’s School, St John Fisher RC School, St. Aidan’s C E School and Outwood Academy. There were six rounds, with eight challenging questions in each, varying from ‘Quotes to remember’ to ‘Ghosts, Witches and Wizards’. The main hall was buzzing with discussion as the teams were challenged by Quizmaster Tim Pocock.  The winners were the St. Aidan’s B team who did a lap of honour around the hall with their trophy in-hand to rapturous applause.

Congratulations to Thomas Taylor, Sophie Holt, Ella Swift and Emily Holroyd for getting the most answers correct and well done to all the teams for exhibiting such an enthusiasm for literature!  A huge thanks must go to school Librarian Mrs Kennerley and Mrs Davidson (and your team of volunteer helpers) for all the organization and we are extremely grateful to The Imagined Things Bookshop for donating the prizes.  As winners, St. Aidan’s look forward to hosting the event in 2023.
