Sophie Priestley in year 12 has successfully auditioned for a place as a composer for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO). This is an extraordinary accomplishment. Only seven students were offered composition places. She will attend residentials and have the opportunity to compose music for the orchestra to play. NYO is the world’s greatest orchestra of teenagers. They were awarded The Queen’s Medal for Music 2012, in acknowledgement of the world-class standards of the orchestra, and the long-standing contribution they have made to classical music in this country, and national life.
