North East Festival of Youth Choirs and Junior Music Residential

St Aidan’s musicians have had a joyfully busy weekend with the North East Festival of Youth Choirs and the Junior Music Residential coinciding on the same day this year! Around 60 young instrumentalists had a fabulous time at Stableside Residential Centre, York, with a great deal of valuable rehearsal time as well as bowling and the ever popular Cabaret Evening, all of this culminating in an informal concert for parents on Sunday afternoon.

At the same time 50 members of the Sixth Form Chamber Choir took part in a wonderful concert on Saturday night at the magnificent Durham Cathedral, sharing the stage with 8 other excellent youth choirs from the North East. The finale was a massed performance by hundreds of voices of Parry’s great anthem “I Was Glad”. Year 12 tenor Oscar Gray made his conducting debut in real style, directing the Chamber Choir in one of their pieces. A pleasant surprise was that some former members of Chamber Choir who are now at Durham University came to the concert too. As ever, the choir sang on the coach all the way home.

A weekend to remember!
