Ullswater 2019
Some of our Year 8 students are away in Ullswater and Howtown this week. The weather has been challenging, however this has not dampened their spirits and they are having a fantastic time.
Mock Election – Hustings
The Hustings was a great success yesterday in the Drama Studio, ahead of the Mock Election being held in school on Thursday 12th December. Well done to the candidates!
A Level Presentation of Certificates
We are pleased to inform you that the guest speaker for our A Level Presentation of Certificates Evening on Wednesday 18th December will be Maisie Adam.
In Dulci Jubilo – Christmas Concert
On Sunday 8th December Chamber Choir performed with Vocalis at St Wilfrid’s Church, Harrogate. This was a fantastic event and a great way to start the festive season.
ESSA National Finals
All four of our Cross Country teams recently qualified for the ESSA National Finals in Sheffield. St Aidan’s were the only school to have qualified all four teams for this competition and the event took place this Saturday, 7th December.
Engineering Student Awarded Prestigious National Scholarship
Year 12 student Alex Dixon has been awarded a prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship that identifies him as future leader in engineering.
Year 13 Performing Arts
We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 Performing Arts students who completed their Musical Theatre Techniques practical exam last night. This fantastic group of students performed repertoire from a variety of musicals and showcased their excellent talents. Well done!
Mock Election Campaign
Ahead of the upcoming Mock Election, this morning our Year 11 students heard from four Sixth Form students who are representing different political parties in the Mock Election Campaign.
Year 7 Panto Trip departs!
Our Year 7 students have left for an afternoon at the Leeds City Varieties Pantomime, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’!
Community Concert at Aldborough Church
With the final strains of We Will Rock You still ringing in their ears almost, 80 St Aidan’s musicians in the shape of the Chamber Choir and the Symphonic Wind Band journeyed the 13 miles out to Aldborough, near Boroughbridge to give a concert of popular band and choral music on Thursday 28th November.
Christmas Card – Winning Entry 2019
Congratulations to Nellie Rawlings in Year 8, our Christmas Card Design winner! Nellie’s design will be professionally printed and used to wish good festive cheer to friends of St Aidan’s.

Snow Ball – FOSA Christmas Event
Thank you to everyone who came to support the FOSA Snow Ball this Saturday night. We had an amazing time and hope you all did too! We are still counting the money but we have raised in excess of £10,000 for school.
Year 10 Food and Nutrition Projects
Year 10 Food and Nutrition students have concluded a most successful layered dessert projects with outstanding final products. All have increased fruit content, reduced sugar and reduced fat. Looking delicious!
Year 7 Public Speaking Competition
Since half term, the English Department have been teaching Year 7 about persuasive writing skills and the art of constructing a well-researched argument. Pupils have learnt how to form a viewpoint from which to write, the use of rhetorical and persuasive techniques and the impact of their choice of language and style of delivery on an audience.

Year 12 Law Programme Event
Our Year 12 cohort who applied for the Law Programme (LAP) had their first event in Leeds on the evening of Wednesday 27th November.
Gingerbread House Demonstration!
Year 9 students were treated to a Gingerbread House Demonstration from chefs at Baltzersen’s ahead of the Gingerbread House Competition in a couple of weeks.
ESU Mace Debating Competition
Well done to Alfie Tyrell, Owen Spafford and Dan Alcock on their win in the first round debate of the ESU Mace competition. They were worthy winners!
Chess Tournament Achievement
Archie Lusted, Year 7 student, came 3rd in the Harrogate Secondary Schools Chess Tournament on Saturday 23rd November. Archie is a member of the Harrogate Youth Chess Club and he was one of the youngest in the tournament. Congratulations!
