On Saturday 9th November, all four Cross Country teams – Junior girls, Junior boys, Inter girls and Inter boys – came 1st or 2nd at the ESSA Cross Country Regional finals, held at Stewart Park in Middlesbrough. This means they have qualified for the National finals!
Cassidy Weidemann, Year 10 student, wrote a poem for the Remembrance Festival on 11th November 2019. Cassidy is an Air Cadet Corporal of ATC (886 Squadron Ripon).
To mark Armistice Day, the bell rang at 11.00am and all staff and students observed 2 minutes silence.
There is a wonderful display in reception to mark Remembrance Sunday. On Monday 11th November, a bell will sound at 11.00 am and we will observe 2 minutes silence, then trumpeters will play ‘The Last Post’ around the school.
On Wednesday 6th November, our team of Year 8 students won the Lit Quiz 2019 at Bootham School, York. Congratulations! They won the Quiz and the trophy and are now through to the National Finals, which will be held in London on 4th December.

On Tuesday 5th November 2019 teachers from the St Aidan’s Design and Technology department took 30 Year 9 girls to an Engineering Extravaganza at the National STEM learning centre in York. The aim of the event was to give the students hands-on experience of different types of engineering.
The BBC came into talk to Year 9 students about some of the amazing careers in the creative and performing arts
We are delighted to announce that three St Aidan’s students have been cast in the Leeds Playhouse Christmas production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
BBC Presentation to Students We are delighted to host the BBC on Wednesday 6th November to talk to Year 9 students about all the amazing career opportunities that there are in Media, TV, Film, Digital, Gaming, Creative and Performing Arts. The BBC Presentation will take place during Period 5 in the Main Hall.
On the last day before half term, our Year 7 students had a wonderful trip to Christ Church, Harrogate.
On Thursday 24th October, St Aidan’s enjoyed a fantastic musical evening – the Autumn Senior Concert. There were wonderful performances from Swing Band, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Girls’ Choir and Chamber Choir.
On 23rd October, we welcomed our Year 11 students (from 2018-2019) academic year to receive their GCSE certificates. All students were recognised for their achievements as well as individuals in each subject area.
On Tuesday 22nd October we held our lower school sports awards evening. Students from current Year 8,9,10 were awarded medals for contributions to school sports over the last academic year.
On Monday 21st October, our Year 12 Geographers spent the day in Bridlington, on the East Coast, as part of their A Level Geography field work.
We had a fantastic Open Day this year and it was lovely to meet so many students and families visiting school.
Congratulations to the Year 9 Netball A team on a great display of netball against a very strong South Hunsley on Monday 21st October. The score was 17-12, a win for St Aidan’s. Well done girls!
Our Autumn Senior Music Concert will take place on Thursday 24th October at 7.30pm in Constance Green Hall. Come along and enjoy performances from Swing Band, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Girls’ Choir and Chamber Choir. Tickets are £6 (£3 concession) each and are available from Reception or on the door.
Jessica Hardesty Dean, Year 10 student, came 2nd in the National Clout Archery competition on Saturday 19th October, receiving a Silver medal. The weekend of Saturday 26th October, Jess will compete in Penrith where she will shoot her first indoor competition using a Longbow and shooting against adults. Congratulations to Jess on this achievement!
