Admissions

Year 7 Admissions – September 2024

St. Aidan’s Church of England High School became an Academy in August 2011 and given the distinctive nature of the school it is committed to the ethos of the Christian faith in the tradition of the Anglican Church. It provides an education for students aged 11 – 19. As an Academy admissions are the responsibility of the Governing Body, however in terms of procedure we follow closely the policy and timings of North Yorkshire Council.

In order to make an application for a place at St. Aidan’s you will need to complete two forms.

  • First the online schools admissions application for North Yorkshire common application form (CAF)
  • Secondly you will need to complete the St. Aidan’s application form (SIF) for admission, a sample of which can be viewed below.

The school’s admission number is 250. The school serves the Deaneries of Harrogate and Ripon.

For further information, prospective parents must contact the school directly via admissions@staidans.co.uk or admin@staidans.co.uk. Alternatively parents can call the Main School Office on 01423 885814.

For pupils of Sixth Form age, arrangements should be made with the Sixth Form Office by telephoning 01423 818516.

Oversubscription Criteria September 2024

Note:

For applicants wishing to join Year 7 in September 2024, the previous three years attendance at a place of worship would be from October 2020 to October 2023.

The variation regarding worship still applies – this means that for the period of time places of worship were closed (currently March 2020 – June 2021) church attendance cannot be counted.  Attendance via online services unfortunately cannot be taken into consideration.

Obviously places of worship have not been consistently open since March 2020.  Therefore, the presumption will be made that an applicants’ pattern of church attendance up to March 2020 would have continued at the same rate if places of worship had remained open.

As always, the Governors on the Admissions Committee would read any supporting letters from Ministers.

Where an application does not receive the offer of a place on National Offer Day it will be automatically added to the waiting list.  The waiting list will be kept in oversubscription criteria order until the end of the academic year to which it relates and is subject to reordering based on the receipt of further applications.

In-Year Admissions 2023/2024

We understand that sometimes children need to apply for a school place mid-year, they may be new to the area or wish to request to move to a new school.  An in-year application can be made to St Aidan’s at any time of the year.   In-Year admissions are the responsibility of the Governing Body and the process for applications is co-ordinated between the school and North Yorkshire Council.  Applications are made to both North Yorkshire  Council using their application process and directly to St. Aidan’s School, using a Supplementary Information Form (SIF).

Details of how to apply via North Yorkshire County Council can be found here: Changing schools and in-year applications | North Yorkshire Council

The Supplementary Information Form (SIF), is available to download below, along with our Admissions Policy and Oversubscription Criteria.  Please complete  the SIF and return either by post to the address provided on the form or email to admissions@staidans.co.uk.  For a hard copy of the form or policies please contact the school to request one.

Oversubscription Criteria September 2024

Once the school is in receipt of the application from the Local Authority and the SIF Form, the In-Year Admissions Committee meet to determine the outcome of the request.  The school will notify the Local Authority of the outcome of the application within 15 school days of the date that the application was received.  When a SIF application has been completed and sent to the school, the school will also write to parents/guardians to notify them of the outcome.

When an applicant is offered a school place following their In-Year application and the offer is subsequently accepted the school will make arrangements for the child to start school as soon as possible.

Where an application is declined the school will outline the reason for this decision and provide clear information about the right to appeal.

Waiting lists for each year group are in operation and are kept in criteria order until the end of the academic year to which they relate.  You will need to complete a new application for each academic year, to ensure that you remain on the waiting list.

The school is happy to answer queries regarding in-year applications either by telephone on 01423 885814 or by email to admissions@staidans.co.uk

Admission Arrangements 2025/26
