Nine Lessons and Carols at Christ Church
Last night we had a wonderful traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Christ Church with many staff, students and families in attendance. This was a very special way to celebrate Christmas and join together in worship and song.
Art Department Update
It’s been another busy week before the end of term in the Art department. Year 8 have been creating sculptures and Year 12 have been exploring physical manipulation in Photography.
Archery Achievement

Year 12 Food & Nutrition Talk
Gale Filburn, owner of GRF Associates, a food, health and safety consultancy, came in to speak to Year 12 Food & Nutrition students about the function of Environmental Health Officers and the vital importance of food safety in the hospitality industry.
A Level Presentation of Certificates 2019
Last night was our A Level Presentation of Certificates 2019 in Constance Green Hall. It was wonderful to see so many of our students back in school to receive their certificates.
Year 9 Interform Food Tech – Gingerbread House Competition
Yesterday was the Year 9 Interform Food Technology Competition 2019! All teams were tasked with making a festive Gingerbread House!
Sixth Form Christmas Jumper Day
Last week, our Sixth Form students had a Christmas Jumper Day to raise money for Frank’s Fund, Bone Cancer Trust. They raised £355.00 for this wonderful cause.
Light Up a Life
St Aidan’s performed ‘Light Up a Life’ this weekend at St Michael’s Hospice. This is a special service to help celebrate the lives of loved ones who are no longer with us, but who remain in our thoughts, especially at this time of year.
Christmas Lunch for Year 7 and Sixth Form
Today Year 7, 12 and 13 enjoyed their Christmas lunches in the Year 7 Dining Hall and Sixth Form Cafe!
Christmas Event at Rudding Gates, Follifoot
Yesterday afternoon our Brass Ensemble performed and led carols at Rudding Gates, Follifoot for Follifoot Primary School. This was a wonderful Christmas event for the community to enjoy.
Mock Election – Voting
Yesterday was Election Day at St Aidan’s! Our Sixth Form candidates have been campaigning for over a week and all the students from Years 7 – 13 voted for their party of choice. We were lucky enough to also have Stray FM in to interview some of our first time ‘real’ voters!

Sixth Form Safety Talk
This afternoon the Sixth Form listened to a presentation from the police and fire brigade about safe driving and road awareness. It was a very thought provoking hour and we would also like to thank Lauren for coming along and sharing her story with our students.
Ullswater 2019
Some of our Year 8 students are away in Ullswater and Howtown this week. The weather has been challenging, however this has not dampened their spirits and they are having a fantastic time.
Mock Election – Hustings
The Hustings was a great success yesterday in the Drama Studio, ahead of the Mock Election being held in school on Thursday 12th December. Well done to the candidates!

In Dulci Jubilo – Christmas Concert
On Sunday 8th December Chamber Choir performed with Vocalis at St Wilfrid’s Church, Harrogate. This was a fantastic event and a great way to start the festive season.
ESSA National Finals
All four of our Cross Country teams recently qualified for the ESSA National Finals in Sheffield. St Aidan’s were the only school to have qualified all four teams for this competition and the event took place this Saturday, 7th December.
Engineering Student Awarded Prestigious National Scholarship
Year 12 student Alex Dixon has been awarded a prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship that identifies him as future leader in engineering.
