Sporting Achievements
Jess Thompson, Year 9 student, has won Gold at the National Schools’ Finals. She threw the Javelin 41.57 metres! Congratulations to Jess! Ella Colbourn, Year 9 student, qualified for the 800 metre Semi Final, where she came 6th – placing her in the Top 12 in the country! Well done to Ella.
Maths Origami Display
The Maths department have done an amazing display at the end of the Maths Corridor. The display shows a cross with hundreds of origami birds (made by Mrs Payling!) in the school colours.
Sailing Success
Thomas Bates, Year 9 student, has competed in many sailing events throughout this academic year. Most recently he has competed in the North West Area Topper Championships, at Bassenthwaite Sailing Club, where he came 1st out of 23 competitors. Congratulations Tom on this achievement!

50 Year Anniversary
Yesterday was a historic day for St Aidan’s as the official opening ceremony of the school was exactly 50 years ago this very day. It was fitting, therefore, that this was the evening we chose to hold our annual Service for the Newly Confirmed, always a significant event for us as a church school.
Year 7 First Aid Training – with special guests!
With support from Harrogate Lions and St John’s Ambulance, Year 7 students had opportunity to participate in First Aid training in the Chapel this morning. The Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate came in to visit the students and echoed the importance of learning First Aid.
Sporting Success
Hattie Miles, Year 7 student, has been selected to represent Yorkshire in a National Under 13 Basketball Tournament, taking place at The National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester on 20th & 21st July.
Frantic Assembly Workshop
Our Year 12 Drama students enjoyed a fantastic workshop from the award winning theatre company Frantic Assembly, as part of Sixth Form Enrichment week.
Sponsored Walk in Aid of Frank’s Fund
Over 800 students and staff have set off on the 12 mile Sponsored Walk in Aid of Frank’s Fund.
Frank’s Friday
Led by 9Y, Frank’s Friday has been a big success with delicious bake sales, Frank’s Fund wristbands and students wearing either Orange or Blue all in aid of Frank’s Fund. Thank you to all staff, students and parents for their support.
Geology Field Trip
Our Year 12 students had a fantastic field tip for Geology as part of Sixth Form Enrichment.
Chamber Choir Tour to Belgium
Chamber Choir had a truly memorable and moving first day on their Flanders concert tour; first of all visiting the Passchendaele Memorial Museum, Tyne Cot Cemetery, an afternoon concert in Ypres Cathedral and then singing at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres.
Great Yorkshire Show
Our Year 7 and 8 students have left for the Great Yorkshire Show. We hope they have a fantastic day!
Sixth Form Creative Writing Week
Our Year 12 students had a wonderful writing week in Wales as part of Sixth Form Enrichment.
Frank’s Fund
On Friday 12th July, we are having an own clothes day (orange and blue if possible) before the big 12 mile Sponsored Walk on Monday 15th July. Frank’s Fund orange wristbands are available to buy from main school reception.
USA 2019
Our History and Politics Sixth Form students are having a fantastic time in the United States. The students visited the National Constitution Centre, Independence Hall and stopped for lunch at Love Park. Some of the students even sampled local cuisine, the Philly Cheesesteak. Next stop: Washington DC!

Politics and History Tour, USA 2019
The Politics and History Tour of the USA has had a fantastic start in New York. Students have visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the 9/11 memorial museum, the Empire State Building, a Broadway musical and have had fun on a cycling tour of Central Park. Next stop: Philadelphia!
