Year 9 School Trips

In Year 9 pupils have a choice of simultaneous trips in June:

Performing Arts

A London theatre tour which includes attending three of the most exciting productions on the London stage, a visit to the BBC and workshops based both in London and back at school in Harrogate.

Any pupil thinking of music, dance or drama as an option for Year 10 may wish to consider this trip.

Visit To Valkenburg

This is an excellent opportunity for both boys and girls with a particular interest in football and hockey to combine 3 fixtures with local clubs with sightseeing in the surrounding area.

Based in the cosmopolitan town of Valkenburg, close to the borders of Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg, visits across the borders makes this a truly ‘european’ trip. One such trip is into Germany to visit its largest theme park Phantasialand, with fantastic roller coasters and rides not for the faint hearted!

For students considering studying History at GCSE there is the opportunity to go to Flanders and Picardy on this five day trip. This fascinating trip allows pupils to study the aspects of war and witness at first hand Britain’s involvement by seeting battlefields, trenches and memorials. Those who have previously been on this trip all say it made a big impact on them and it is the best trip they have been on at school.

This five day trip to Italy provides an opportunity for students with an interest in geography to see how tectonic activity has created a unique enviroment and how volcanic activity has impacted on people. It also provides the opportunity to look at how landscape and climate influences the way of life and economy of the area.

Coast To Coast Cycling

The cyclists depart from St. Aidan’s via minibus transporting them and their bikes to Flamborough Head on the East coast. Over five days they make their way across the country averaging 40 – 50 miles per day to arrive in St. Bee’s on the West coast. Staying at youth hostels each night this trip will appeal to all those with a love of cycling and the great outdoors.

New for 2015 is this five day trip for Year 9 students to visit one of the most cultural parts of Europe aiming to dicover the highlights of the capital Brussels and Bruges.

Australian Exchange

An additional opportunity for Year 9’s is the Australian Exchange with a school in Melbourne.  The students go to Australia for six weeks in the spring term and the Australians return for six weeks in the summer.
