Studies in Islam with Christian Ethics

The study of Islam in this option mirrors the first section of the Philosophy with Worship option, but relates to Islam

The Islam modules are as follows:-

  • The Nature of God - this examines the idea of Allah/God with study of Muslim beliefs and the Qur'an
  • The Nature of Belief - this investigates Muslim belief and worship with a study of the Mosque and Muslim worship
  • Death & the Afterlife - this studies the ideas of soul and of heaven and hell and concludes with work on Islamic funeral rites
  • Good & Evil - asks why there is evil in the world when Allah is good

The Christian Ethics modules:-

  • Religion & Human Relationships - this focuses on Christian marriage and family and includes thinking about sexual relationships, contraception and divorce
  • Religion & Medical Ethics - this is about abortion and fertility treatment, euthanasia and suicide and animal experimentation
  • Religion and Equality - has a focus on racism, women in society and Christian approaches to other world religions. There is teaching on justice, forgiveness and reconciliation
  • Religion, Peace & Justice - includes decisions about war and about the treatment of criminals
  • Religion, Poverty & Wealth - discusses development issues and Christian attitudes to wealth
