Philosophy of Religion, Worship & Ethics
This is similar to the Philosophy and Ethics option, but instead of looking at science and religion, it has a focus on Christian worship.
The philosophy modules are as follows:-
- The Nature of God - this looks at the idea of God with a study of Christian beliefs about God and about the Bible
- The Nature of Belief - this investigates Christian belief and worship with a study of church buildings and types of worship
- Death and the Afterlife - this studies the ideas of soul and of heaven and hell and includes work on Christian funeral rites
- Good and Evil - asks why there is evil in the world when God is good
The ethics modules are:-
- Religion and Human Relationships - this focuses on Christian marriage and family and includes thinking about sexual relationships, contraception and divorce
- Religion and Medical Ethics - this is about abortion and fertility treatment, euthanasia and suicide and animal experimentation
- Religion and Equality - has a focus on racism, women in society and Christian approaches to other world religions. There is teaching on justice, forgiveness and reconcilation.
- Religion, Peace & Justice - includes decisions about war and about the treatment of criminals
- Religion, poverty and wealth - discusses development issues and Christian attitudes to wealth
