Christian Life & The Gospel With Issues

This course has two parts and two pieces of coursework.

The themes from Mark's Gospel are:-

  • Titles used for Jesus - Son of God, Son of Man, Christ/Messiah and Saviour
  • The suffering of Jesus - events associated with the trials, death and resurrection of Jesus
  • Discipleship and Leadership - a study of discipleship then and now
  • The Kingdom of God - the meaning of Kingdom then and now
  • Worship and the Holy Communion - the services today
  • Baptism - the baptism of Jesus and modern practice

The issues section of the course involves looking at how Christians make decisions about the following issues:-

  • Prejudice - with a focus on racism and sexism
  • The developing world - the distribution of wealth in the world and problems of poverty
  • Justice, reconciliation and peace - referring specifically to crime and punishment and to war and conflict
  • Matters of life and death - with particular reference to abortion, euthanasia and suicide
  • Relationships - in particular marriage, divorce and remarriage and sex outside marriage
