value added & monitoring

Psychology students are monitored for progress and attainment in accordance with the Associated Sixth Form Assessment System (ASAS).

All students are put in a 'band' which is related to their average GCSE score. This in turn is related to a target 'A' level grade. This grade is designed to give the students and their teachers a guide as to what grade they can expect to be aiming for.

Twice a year students are formally assessed and their progress discussed by their subject teachers and Senior Tutors before reports go home to parents. However, assessment is also ongoing throughout the terms and homeworks are regularly set and marked within the department.

When the examination results are published, the department Value Added score is calculated. This compares the predicted grades against the grades achieved. A score of 1.0 suggests that students met their target grades.

Last August the Department had a Value Added score of 1.03.
