Scott Aitken was tragically killed in a road accident on 9th August 2006. For seven of his eighteen years Scott was a happy and successful student at St. Aidan’s Church of England High School in Harrogate. Scott had an exemplary school record entering the Sixth Form with ten good GCSE grades. It was in the Sixth Form that his love for Music Technology developed and flourished. He was totally committed to the subject and his teachers were delighted by his talent, his attainment, and his dedication to the subject. A gifted musician in his own right and a skilled arranger, Scott was also highly innovative in the use of new software and the corresponding equipment. There is no doubt Scott’s love of music would have continued for the rest of his life and there was no limit on what he could have achieved. |

With the support of Anna and David, Scott’s parents, and Will, his brother, we set up the Scott Aitken Music Technology Foundation in December 2006. The goal of the Foundation is not only to ensure Scott’s name is remembered at St. Aidan’s but to do something positive to support young musicians in his name. The Foundation will support innovative projects, provide equipment and give bursaries to students who would otherwise find music technology prohibitively expensive and out of their reach. Music is a wonderful hobby and even, as in Scott’s case, a passion. It has something for everybody. It challenges, excites, soothes and educates at different times and in different ways. A number of CDs are currently in production – gifted and talented musicians at the school recording their work for posterity and supported by the Scott Aitken Music Technology Foundation. |
