Staffing

Design & Technology currently has a total of 9 teachers. The teachers are ably supported by a technician who assists with the daily running of the department as well as managing resources for the wide range of projects:

Mr J Turner Technician

The Design & Technology department offers Product, Food and Textile Design as well as Engineering at GCSE and A level. In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils have 2 lessons per week in all 3 material areas. They also use a wide range of up to the minute CAD/CAM applications within the department's central ICT facilities. Through a varied programme of practical based projects, the pupils are able to combine creativity with thorough planning and evaluation of their work.

The department works hard to gain access to the industrial world and offers a number of educational visits for the pupils, including: Fox's Biscuits, Betty's Cookery school and factory, Danby Foods, EMTEX (textile design). Pupils are also given the opportunity to compete in various Technology challenges, including the F1 Racing Car Challenge, the Green Car Challenge and the Ramus Seafood development competition.
