New science GCSE
From September 2006 a new Science Curriculum was introduced nationally. This was introduced with the aim of raising interest in Science and to encourage more students to study Science at AS/A2 level.
The new Curriculum involves studying ideas about Science and being able to understand Science in every day contexts. Students in Years 10 and 11 who opt to study Double Award Science are awarded 2 separate GCSE grades. One grade is awarded for GCSE Science and the other is awarded for GCSE Additional Science. Students can still opt to study Separate Sciences. This covers all of the work to GCSE Science, GCSE Additional Science and includes a further unit of work.
Some of the units studied in the new GCSE syllabus include:
| You & Your Genes |
Air Quality |
The Earth in the Universe |
