Because the course consists of twelve units, the subject content covered by this subject is broad. Therefore, Health and Social Care boasts a large staff list, with a wide range of expertise. All staff are experienced teachers of the subject.

AQA Specification: Double award A-level

  • The course consists of twelve units, studied over two years.
  • The course leads to a double A-level qualification and accounts for ten hours of lesson time per week.
  • Six AS units are taught in year 12 and six A2 units are taught in year 13.
  • Half of the units are assessed by external examinations, (identified with *) and half the units are portfolio assessed.

Students are provided with two detailed and approved textbooks during the course, in addition to workbooks.

Varied and effective teaching and learning activities for a range of topics, throughout the course.

Students learn a variety of transferable skills such as data collection techniques, analysis and evaluation of project work.

Students are very positive about the course, identifying many enjoyable aspects. The course is accessible, relevant and interesting.

Health and social care enjoys a good value added score and is among the best A-level performers for student value added results.
