Physics at St Aidan’s

The Physics department at St Aidan’s is a very successful one.  We have improving results and increasing popularity as a choice for study at AS/A2 and beyond.

To GCSE level we currently offer Separate Science: Physics, Dual Award: Physics and Single Award: Physics all from the OCR syllabus.  Since September 2006 we have followed the Science for the 21st Century syllabus, again to Separate Award, Dual Award and Single Award levels.

At AS/A2 level we follow the AQA syllabus A and have achieved considerable success.  In Year 13 students also have the option of Advanced Extension Award Physics.

The Physics department operates from four labs within the school.  All are well equipped with a wide range of practical apparatus and data logging equipment is available.  Every lab also has a digital projector and a number of computers for student use.

As a department we aim to encourage every student to achieve their potential.  This includes stretching the most able and nurturing those who find the subject more challenging.  Our ‘open-door’ policy also allows students to easily get the help they need whenever necessary.
