KS3 Biology Visit to Thackray Medical Museum

Thackray Medical Museum

During the summer term, Year 9 is given the opportunity to visit the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds.

This morning session is designed to introduce students to 'Medicine Through Time'. It is hoped that they will use this experience to gain knowledge and understanding which can be applied to Microbes and Disease at KS4.

The exhibitions start with a walk through the streets of Leeds in 1842. The students can see the squalor, hear the sounds and smell the odours!

Other exhibitions include:

  • The work of Jenner, Pasteur, Koch and Flemming
  • The early days of anaesthetics
  • The development of antiseptics
  • Having a baby

The students complete a St. Aidan's designed worksheet of questions as they move from gallery to gallery.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable visit according to staff and pupils.
