GCSE Religious Studies Options

Option 1 – RELIGIOUS STUDIES AQA (Religion, Philosophical and Ethical Themes)

Course Outline:

 

1) Beliefs, teachings and Practices

· Students are required to study two religions in depth. We will study Christianity and Islam.

· 50% of the qualification

2) Ethical and Philosophical Studies

· Students are required to focus on one religion for this unit. We will focus upon Christianity.

· There are four elements to this unit:

o Relationships and families

o Religion and Life

o The existence of God and revelation

o Religion, Peace and Conflict

· 50% of the qualification

 

Option 2 – RELIGIOUS STUDIES AQA (Religion, Philosophical and Ethical Themes and St. Mark’s Gospel)

Course Outline:

 

1) Beliefs, teachings and Practices

· Students are required to study two religions in depth. We will study Christianity and Islam.

· 50% of the qualification

2) Ethical and Textual Studies

· Students are required to focus on one religion for this unit. We will focus upon Christianity.

· There are four elements to this unit:

o Religion and Families

o Religion, Peace and Conflict OR Religion and Life

o The life of Jesus (ministry, teaching, Passion)

o St. Mark’s Gospel as a source of religious, moral and spiritual truth

· 50% of the qualification
