On Wednesday 12th June, our Year 8 students participated in the annual Physics Olympics at St Peters school in York. Our team was placed 8th out of 28 schools. Congratulations to the following students:

At the end of last half term we took eleven Year 8 students who were the winners of the Year 8 Interform Food Technology competition to Rudding Park Hotel.
On Saturday 18th May 2019 Friends of St Aidan’s (FOSA) are tackling the beautiful Yorkshire Three Peaks. We will be taking in the big hills of PenYGhent, Whernside, and Ingleborough in under 12 hours. Fund raising and training is well underway but we need all the support we can get.
St. Aidan’s ever popular KS3 show, Spotlight, will be returning for its 10th year this summer! We will be celebrating the anniversary with a spectacular performance at the Royal Hall on Tuesday 2nd July. Please see the Music or Dance department for further information.

We has a fantastic couple of weeks of Inter-form Sport before Easter, with with Years 7-9 students participating in tournaments of Netball, Hockey, Basketball and Football. On Thursday, Year 8 competed in Inter-form Football with Form 8G taking the winning title! Well done to all staff and students who were involved.
The Year 8 Interform Pizza Competition took place last night in our Food technology department. Students from each of the 9 forms in Year 8 took part in the 2nd Annual Interform Cooking Contest following a record number of applicants which led to stiff competition of one of the 4 places in each team.
Our Under 16 Boys have won the England Squash National Plate finals in Nottingham. Congratulations to the team!
Stray FM have been working with local business Entech to promote ‘Green month’ throughout the whole of March.
Honor Rouse, Year 8, has very successfully competed in the British Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, as an Elite Junior, which is the best in Great Britain 14 and 15 year olds. On the weekend of the 16th-17th March 2019, Year 8 student, Edward Lusted, has won Bronze at the Yorkshire Fencing Championship in Under 14 Foil.
Year 8 Spelling Bee took place on Friday 8th March, with each Form cheering on their fellow students! The Group Winners were 8D and the individual Spelling Bee Winner was Archie Jackson, 8W.
The launch of the Music Association’s new Start the Music Initiative, to provide free lessons and free instruments on loan to St Aidan’s students, was a great success last night!
‘Start the Music’ is a new scheme to encourage more young people to take up an instrument and play music. This scheme will enable students to try an instrument over the course of a year.
