Athletics Report

All 4 of our teams – u13 and u15 girls; and u13 and u15 boys competed in York, in the North Yorkshire round of the English Schools Athletics Association cup – the ESAA cup last week. This is a national competition in which athletes must compete in 1 track and 1 field event and teams are made up of 12 girls or 14 boys. Each performance earns points depending on how fast, far or high it is.

All 4 teams qualified for the North East England regional ‘A’ final which takes place on June 13th, and is contested by the 8 teams with the best scores across the NE of England.  The u13 girls, u15 girls and u15 boys actually have the best scores of all the qualifying teams. This suggests that they have a good chance of winning the North East region final and progressing to the National Final on July 1st, which is in Oxford this year. We have had 5 teams representing at this national level in recent years.

Highlights of the county round match were school records for Ella Colbourn (1500m), Jess Thompson (Javelin), Alice Baker (Javelin) and Jake Liddle (High Jump). Highest points scorers were Jasmine Leyland with 40 points, Dorcas Ojiakor with 41 points, Jake Liddle with 45 points, Gaby Whiteley with 46 points, and Jess Thompson with 51 points.

Well done everyone.
