Year 9 Rhineland Trip
May 2008
In May this year, 80 year 9 pupils travelled to the Rhineland, where they had the opportunity to experience the lifestyle and culture of Germany, one of our neighbouring countries in the European Union. With its traditional towns and villages, impressive riverside castles, and other attractions, the Rhine was a perfect destination for our students. The group stayed in a hotel in the beautiful spa town, Bad Salzig, situated on the river Rhine. During the week-long visit, pupils took part in a variety of fun-filled activities including, swimming, cable car ride, Rhine river cruise, mini golf, shopping and many more. Much to the delight of our travelling history fanatic, Mrs Arblaster, we were also able to visit the Bridge at Remagen and Schloss Stolzenfells, where the pupils were able to slide around the castle in giant ‘Hausschuhe’ (house shoes – slippers!). The visit culminated in a day at ‘Phantasialand’, where the students enjoyed the thrills of the roller coasters, rides, and amazing live shows - a good day was had by all! Even the staff were able to scream and let off some steam!!
Another pleasing aspect of the trip was the excellent behaviour and attitude of our youngsters, who yet again proved to be excellent ambassadors for St Aidans.
All in all, the pupils really enjoyed the trip and returned to the UK in high spirits and enthusiastic about the start of their GCSE language courses.
